Brian Baker - the latest CD- "In our backyard". The cover is a photo of Brian's actual backyard with 22 month old son Miles in an inquisitive pose!

Track listing and notes.
1. In our backyard - title track has Brian's daughter Ella on backing vocals. One track of acoustic guitar and one track of vocal. About the value of what's under our noses.

2. Stop the baby crying - once again simply recorded, with Ella on bv's, but this time Mr Michael Arvanitakis makes an appearance on upright bass. What a groover!

3. Carry me home - written in response to the sad passing of Jake Kovco, the first Australian soldier to die in Iraq. Close connection to the Victorian township of Briagolong, where Brian once resided. Just Brian and acoustic on this one, with a strong Celtic flavor.

4. Ghost life - Ella and Brian in an ode to Rowville, a housing estate nearby.

5. Black sand beaches - much time spent on Kare kare and Piha beaches on the west coast of New Zealand. Violent surf and thoughts.

I wanted to concentrate on the lyrics with this CD. Consequently I started each song with a completed set of lyrics and created the music in sympathy with them. That's why I haven't used any other instruments or backing, I wanted the songs to stand on their own without embellishment. I intend for this to be the first in a series of acoustic CD's based around this idea.

By the way, just like to say that I used a MXL V69 tube microphone on a lot of the recording. Thanks to Fallon Williams for the loan. A very nice mic.

Great band, great songs, jammed down and experimented with to the max - noise and melody with full on drums. We do pop songs, melody etc, but with a few twists turns and surprises. We can also get pretty sonic, (OK noisy.), but don't panic, it's tasty.
